Walter Introduces the Tiger·tec® Gold Finishing Grade WPM15G
The new Walter grade is available for finishing inserts for Xtra·tec® XT, Walter BLAXX and M4000.
Greer, SC—Walter has introduced the Tiger·tec® Gold finishing grade WPM15G with physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings. The unique PVD coating technology is optimized for finish milling. The WPM15G is an upgrade from the existing WXM15 grade and provides increased output and increased tool life. The grade, with over 20 new finishing inserts, is available for all finishing inserts for Walter Xtra·tec® XT, Walter BLAXX and M4000 milling cutters plus more.
The WPM15G grade inserts are for finish milling steel, stainless steel and cast iron (ISO P, M and K material groups). Targeted areas of use include general mechanical engineering, mold and die making, aerospace, energy and automotive industries.
The insert’s fine-grained carbide substrate is coated with an aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) functional layer for the best layer bonding topped with a gold-colored zirconium nitride (ZrN) top layer. Users are able to quickly detect insert wear as the gold layer is eventually removed during use to reveal the charcoal black-colored functional layer.
Walter optimized the layer thickness to provide the best performance on their wiper inserts. The grade features perfect balance between toughness and wear resistance.
Extensive testing has shown a significant improvement in surface finish and also in overall tool life, both of which are major requirements of wiper style finishing inserts.
